Visitor Information Center

Welcome to the West Side Church of Christ web site. Please explore the web site and if you have any questions, feel free to ask us.  Once you have explored our web site, we hope that you will take the time to stop by and visit us at 3232 Edgewood Drive in Evansville, IN.  For some people, it is easier to visit if it is known beforehand what to expect.  So we thought we would tell you briefly what you can expect when you come to see us.

First, we trust that you will find a warm and welcoming environment, where Christians feel at home.  Before services begin, you will find people, young and old, from every walk of life, chatting and visiting with one another. As services near the beginning, people will find their seats.  A respectful decorum will fall upon the congregation.

If you are visiting during a Bible class, there will generally be an opening song.  Everyone is encouraged to participate.  Song books are found on the backs of the pews.  Then, generally, one of the members will be called upon to lead a public prayer.  The teacher of the class will begin the lesson, as he has chosen to do on whatever the topic of the class may be.  Most often, there is a great deal of participation from the class members.  Feel free to participate, but be sure and bring an open mind and an open Bible.  If you do not have a Bible, one will be available in the pew.  At the conclusion of the lesson, there will be a bell signifying the end of the class.

If you visit during the worship assembly, you will find a  song leader directing the congregation in gospel hymns.  Most of the time, two songs will begin the service, next there will be a prayer led by one of the members of the congregation.   Rest assured, you will not be called upon to lead prayer or singled out or embarrassed in any way.  Another song will follow the prayer and then the Lord’s supper will be administered.  Communion is not closed, but each individual is encouraged to examine themselves and their fellowship with God so that they might take it in a worthy manner.  After another song, the preacher will deliver a lesson.  The lesson will be scriptural and timely and you will be encouraged to follow along in your Bible.  At the conclusion of the sermon an invitation will be offered to those who wish to obey the gospel.  A song will be led at the conclusion of the lesson, during which time you may chose to respond to the invitation.  After this song, a final song and a closing prayer conclude the worship hour.

The order of events may be slightly different during the evening worship service, or during special meetings, but the same scriptural elements are involved.  We will never try to embarrass you or single you out, except to greet you and to make you feel comfortable.

We hope this will help you to make the decision to stop by and see us.  In the drop down menu above under “visitor,” there are several helpful links which will help you plan your visit with us.  There is a link to a weather forecast for Evansville, as well as links to area institutions.  We hope you find these helpful.  If there is any other way we could make your visit with us more pleasant, please let us know.

We hope to see you soon!
